Lowell Gray

MILLER CREEK - Lowell Samuel Gray passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Price, Utah, surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife.

Lowell was born on December 10, 1929, in Vernal, Utah, to Samuel and Jennie Jones Gray. He grew up during the Great Depression, a time that shaped his character and provided him with many stories he loved to share, often recalling that the nearest telephone was a mile away at a neighbor's house, along with many other tales of simpler days gone by.

Lowell proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Throughout his life, he wore many hats. He worked as a truck driver, heavy equipment operator, and served as a police officer for Vernal City. He later owned and operated Grayco Construction Company alongside his two sons. Of all his work, however, his greatest joy came from ranching and farming with his wife, Lynna, in Miller Creek.

On July 27, 1954, Lowell married Norita "Rita" Gardner. Together they raised three children: Robbie, JayCee, and Steve. Though they later divorced, Lowell remained deeply devoted to his family. Later in life, Lowell found his true life partner, Lynna Rukavina McCourt, and they were married in June of 1988, sharing many happy years together.

In recent years, Lowell could often be found at the Cowboy Kitchen on Thursdays, enjoying a good cup of soup and even better company, surrounded by his sons, grandsons, and dear friends. These moments reflected his love of family, fellowship, and simple pleasures.

Lowell is survived by his beloved wife, Lynna Gray; his children and their spouses, Robbie and Chriss Gray, Steve and Char Gray, and JayCee Gray Turpin; stepchildren Ryan and Jackie McCourt, Justin McCourt, and Kelly and Luke Hopes. He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, with one more great-great-grandchild on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Jennie Gray; his in-laws, Joe and LaDona Rukavina; his sisters, Elna, Nelda, and Peggy; his brothers, Marcell and Melvin; his son-in-law, Randy Turpin; and grandson, Brendon Young.

Lowell will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, devotion to family, love of the land, and the stories he shared that connected generations. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.

Graveside service, Friday, January 16, 2026, 1:30 p.m., at the Rock Point Cemetery in Maeser, Utah.
