Superintendent Lowell T. James, 68, of High Springs, FL., entered the sunset of life on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at HCA Florida Lake City Hospital. Lowell T. James, affectionately known as "Skip", was born to the late Sarah and Roosevelt James on December 21, 1953, in Fort White, Florida. They noticed early on his kind demeanor and content personality. He was the fourth of six children, he grew up in the Fort White and Scrub Town area and graduated from Columbia High School, then attended Lake City Jr. College. While attending college he met the love of his life, Brenda Hill. The two were married on November 25, 1975. In April of 1976, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Based in San Antonio, Texas for six years. During the six years of service to his country, he was certified as a Radiology Technician. As a Radiology Technician, he was trained at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. Upon retiring from the Air Force in 1982, he gained employment at University of Florida Health Shands Hospital as a Radiology Technician Supervisor. He worked superbly in this capacity for forty years.
Lowell James was called into ministry in 1981 under the leadership of Supt. Ruben T. Iglehart, at Joy Temple COGIC in San Antonio, Texas. The following year upon returning to Florida, he served as a minister and assistant to Pastor Hugh Anderson, Sr. After the passing of Pastor Anderson in 1986, the late Bishop C.D. Kinsey installed Elder Lowell James as the 2nd pastor of Anderson Memorial COGIC (then called High Springs COGIC). Elder James continued the great work of the ministry. Under his leadership the church grew as hundreds of souls would come to know Christ; many families would survive difficult times because of countless hours of counseling; many Christians unfamiliar with the infilling of Holy Ghost would come to Anderson Memorial seeking to be filled with the Holy Ghost; the altar of the church would see a wide range of ministry from marriage ceremonies, to child dedications and people being set free from drugs and alcohol abuse. Pastor James worked tirelessly teaching bible study, leading bi-weekly prayer services and many times teaching Sunday School & YPWW. Pastor James routinely led and organized door to door witnessing teams to spread the gospel through the city of High Springs and surrounding areas. He would organize tent revivals and invite his fellow District Pastors as guest revivalist. Pastor James would grow to become a revivalist himself, running revivals throughout North Central Florida. Pastor James was always seeking to grow as a pastor and preacher. The late Supt. Detroit R. Williams was one of his greatest mentors. For 28 years Supt. Williams educated and inspired Pastor James to do ministry with integrity and excellence. After Supt. Williams' transition in 2014, Bishop Gary Hall, Sr. appointed Pastor James as the Gainesville District's 3rd Superintendent in 2015. Supt. James continued to build on the legacy left by Supt. Williams, by encouraging and equipping the local pastors. On September 20, 2020 Bishop Gary Hall, Sr. appointed Superintendent Lowell T. James as an Administrative Assistant.
Lowell James received numerous awards and accolades throughout his life ranging from accommodations during his military career, to his Radiology profession, and work in ministry. He earned several certifications in the fields of biblical studies and pastoral care and counseling.
It could have been transferring engines from one car to another, to fixing washing machines and air conditioners; repairing lawn mowers; or building wooden porches, Supt. James was a prolific handyman. He enjoyed watching football and boxing. He loved to take walks and rides with his forever sweetheart Brenda. Second to that was playing with his grandchildren. He also had musical interests as he learned to play congas and the alto saxophone. He was an avid reader, amassing a library of hundreds of books. The average night would find him and his wife in joyful and thought-provoking discussion about scripture or a Christian study book. Whether it was at home with his family, at work with patients and colleagues, or local and jurisdictional duties Supt. Lowell Thomas James was a man of faithful service.
Lowell Thomas James was preceded in eternal rest by his brother Jerry James.
He leaves to cherish his life and legacy: devoted wife of 46 years, Brenda James; loving children, Minister Arlo Bryant, Pastor Lowell "Trell" (Janine) James, Missionary Belita James, Matthias (Malee) James, Joshua James, Jonathan (Kim) James, and Robin (Calvin) Littles; 22 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; siblings, Fredrick (Gene) Jones, Bobby (Diane) James, Sandra (Earl) Powel and Derrick James; his church family, Anderson Memorial COGIC, the constituents of Central Florida First Jurisdiction and a host of other family, friends and colleagues.
