WEAVERVILLE – Loy Edward “Eddie” Stines, age 74, of Weaverville went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 11, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.
Eddie was born on November 23, 1950, and lived in Buncombe and Madison Counties all his life. He was a truck driver for NCDOT in Marshall, NC and retired in 2006 but continued driving for other companies for years. He loved God, car racing, fishing, country music, and small engine repair.
He was the son of the late Stella Riddle and Loy Henry Stines; and was also preceded in death by daughter, Carla Covington; and sisters-in-law, Patty Buckner, Shirley Davis, and Barbara Tomberlin.
Surviving is his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Guthrie; son, Edward “Buddy” Stines (Juanita); sister, Charlotte Scarpello (Nick); step-daughters, Karen Robinson (Josh), and Kelly Forster; son-in-law, James Covington; sisters-in-law, Joan Raby, June Medford and Kathy Gosnell; grandchildren, Max Stines, Chloie Wallin (James), Gabe Robinson, Hadley Robinson, Cody “Hot Rod” Guthrie; great grandsons, Waylon and Cash Wallin; Ed’s good friend for many years, Donna Dockery; and several nieces and nephews.
Eddie will be missed by family and friends but the memories he left are amazing. “Fly High On That Mountain, Your Race Is Won.” The family would like to thank the staff at Emerald Ridge for the care they provided to Eddie.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Rev. Kevin Raby officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 73 Piney Grove Road, Marshall.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
