Loyd (Sonny) Phillip Corter, 84, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024. He was born June 25, 1939, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Leo Corter and Iva (Alan) Corter.
Sonny served his country in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne divisions for 27 years. While deployed to Vietnam, he was in the Special Forces and made over 100 parachute jumps. After retiring from his military career, he worked 30 years in civil service at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He married Maelynn E. Benedict on July 21, 2014, in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Sonny enjoyed doing leather work, shooting guns, and packing bullets. He loved gardening and watching western movies (especially those with John Wayne and other old western actors).
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Maelynn; daughters: Karen, Karmon, Kelly, Kassie, Katie (Micheal), Felicia (Evan), Sarah (Corey); sons: Christopher, Jacob, Zachary; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous other family members and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024, 3:00 pm at the AE Funeral Services Chapel, 604 W. Independence St., Shawnee, Oklahoma 74804. A viewing will start at 12:00 noon prior to the service.
