With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lucia Hernandez, who was born and departed this world on Friday, August 15, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri. Although her time with us was brief, she touched the hearts of those who awaited her arrival and will forever be cherished in our memories. Lucia was the beloved daughter of Adalit Hernandez and Kendra Hodge of Centralia. Her arrival was eagerly anticipated by her loving family, who grieve her loss while cherishing the love she brought into their lives during her short stay. Her family is grateful for the outpouring of support and love received during this very difficult time. May her brief presence be a reminder of the beauty and fragility of life and the enduring power of love. Lucia is survived by her parents, grandparents, Kevin and Nicole Hodge of Odin, and Claudia Martinez of Mexico. She was also doted upon by her great-grandparents: Don and Winnie Weemer of Odin, Jim and Debbie Boyce of Centralia, and Kevin and Susan Hodge of Mt. Vernon, and her great-great grandmother: Darlene Jones of Centralia. Her family includes aunts and uncles Brooke and Dylan Back of Salem, Kimberly Hernandez, Christian Hernandez, Nelly Hernandez, Jessica Garcia, Levi Garcia, and Patty Eagan, alongside numerous other beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. In honor of Lucia, cremation rites will be accorded. The family has chosen to forgo public services, preferring to hold their memories of Lucia privately. To honor Lucia's memory, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Kendra Hodge. Donations will be graciously accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home, located at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois 62801. They can be contacted at (618) 532-3523 and feel privileged to be of service to Lucia's family during this time. For friends and family who wish to extend their condolences, messages may be shared online by visiting www.sutherlandfuneralhome.com or the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home's Facebook page.
