James Steven Tabor

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Steven "Jay" Tabor, who left this world peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the age of 71. A long-time resident of Centralia, Illinois, Jay was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Born on Saturday, September 12, 1953, in Tacoma, Washington. Jay was the cherished son of James "Jim" and Mary "Rosie" (Weems) Tabor, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in eternal rest by his sister, Cheryl Tabor. Jay's life was a testament to hard work and dedication, with a robust career in construction, roofing, and as a truck driver, where he forged many lasting friendships and impacted countless lives through his commitment and resilience. Jay was a man who cherished time spent outdoors, captivated by the simplicity and beauty of nature. His love for reading and tinkering in the garage were only surpassed by his boundless devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed by his children: Bianca Pender and her husband Kyle of Centralia; Tamara Manning and her husband Fred of Manchester, Tennessee; Stephanie Fourez of Herrin; and James "Kenny" Tabor and his significant other, Shanel, of Christopher. His legacy continues through the thirteen grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and five great-grandchildren who adored him. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters: Deborah "Debbie" White, Janice Rector and her husband Garry, Diana Pace, Donna Gibson and her significant other, Mark, and Rebecca "Becky" Tabor, along with numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. The family will hold a visitation in Jay's honor on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Six Lemons and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. These can be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home located at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois 62801.
