Lucie Guernsey Kleinhans died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, March 22nd, 2024.
Born April 3, 1955, in New York, NY to David Taylor Guernsey and Jacqueline Chapman Guernsey, Lucie attended the Foxcroft School in Middleburg, VA where she was an avid horseback rider and Cheerleader for the Hounds. She went on to study at Wheaton College where she earned a degree in English and was a member of the a cappella group, the Wheatones.
Lucie had a distinguished career as a banker running a worldwide media and entertainment finance business within the film industry. She met the love of her life, Lewis Charles Kleinhans III, while she was working at Chemical Bank.
Lucie loved to play games and was a competitor all of her life. As soon as the snow was gone, Lucie would hit the golf course with her beloved friends and family at the Litchfield Country Club. During the summers, she enjoyed skippering her Herreshoff 12 ½, "Pickle," in races at the Edgartown Yacht Club on Martha's Vineyard, often with her daughter Jackie serving as crew. She played card games weekly with both her family and friends and served as the Committee Chair of Games and Classes at the Cosmopolitan Club in NYC.
Lucie is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Andrews Kleinhans and daughter-in-law Michelle Lynn Nolan; her three siblings Suzi Guernsey Funnell, David Taylor Guernsey Jr., and Kent Chapman Guernsey. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Lewis Charles Kleinhans III.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Church in Princeton, NJ on Saturday, April 6th at 11:30am, with a reception to follow at the Nassau Club. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Martha's Vineyard Community Foundation.

I will remember Lucie racing her H12, Pickle, with her daughter Jackie. She was a most accomplished sailor and a treasured member of our Edgartown H12 Fleet. She will be remembered very fondly, out on the harbor on one of those classic blue sky, puffy white cloud days. Deb Mello Orazem

For some reason I thought about Lucie today, remembering her collecting the NYT outside her Wheaton College dorm door. She would not remember me, but she always impressed me as being exceptional and obviously, based on all her accomplishments, she was. I am also class of '77 and wish I had known Lucie. Rest in peace. My deepest sympathy to the family. Elaine M. Brown
