Mrs. Elsie Lucille Cox, 98, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City, surrounded by her family.
Lucille was born August 27, 1925, in Missouri on a Chariton County farm. She was a daughter of the late Alma and Jess Wright. She was married April 4, 1940, in Triplett, Mo., to Edward S. Cox, who preceded her in death December 8, 1984.
She grew up in Chariton County where she attended school. Lucille lived many places throughout Missouri and the Midwest. She and Ed called Kansas City home for more than 50 years. Lucille entered the workforce for the Raytown School District where she retired after serving 26 years. She moved to Jefferson City in 2008.
Lucille worshipped in many churches throughout her years. Her faith was an important part of her life -- giving her strength in difficult times and joy in celebratory times. She was a life-long member of the Ladies Guild Eastern Star. Lucille especially enjoyed family get-togethers, cooking for her loved ones, her family dogs, her coffee groups and playing cards.
She is survived by a son, Steve Cox, and his wife Sue (Whitehead) of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandchildren: Donnie Cox and his wife Kelli of Springfield, Mo.; Teresa Corcoran and her husband Mick of Des Moines, Iowa; and Jessica Cox and her husband Chris Plotke of Dallas, Tx.; two step-grandchildren: Lea Muck, Kansas City, Mo.; and Kayla Wilbers and her husband Ryan, Holts Summit, Mo.; great-grandchildren: Stephenie Cowden and her husband Cory, and Jennifer Turner, all of Des Moines, Iowa, and Trisha and Christen Plotke, both of Dallas Tx.; two step-great-grandchildren Jada and Emmy Wilbers, Holts Summit, Mo.; three great-great-grandchildren: Aiden Corcoran, Sidney Cowden and Ashlynn Smith, all of Des Moines, Iowa; a brother-in-law Jim Cox and his wife Charlotte, Garnett, Ks.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons: Ronald E. Cox and David L. Cox; two sisters: Margaret Ann Moore and Georgia Faye Reisch; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Family and friends will be received at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2024.
