On March 27, 2024, Lucille "Lu" Riccobono, passed away peacefully at the age of 91, in her home in Phoenix, AZ.
Lu was born July 25, 1932, to Anna and Joseph Rosato in Manhattan, NY. She grew up in Manhattan with her parents and 3 younger siblings.
Lu married Joseph "Joe" Riccobono May 8, 1954, and in 1961, they moved to Iselin, NJ, where they raised their 3 children, Joseph, Laurie, and Donna. She was married to Joe for 24 years until his passing in 1978.
Lu started coaching Iselin Little League softball for girls in the mid-60's. In 1971, she created the Saints Athletic Club, a woman's CLASS A & CLASS B softball club and with husband Joe, coached the Saints to repeated victories.
Lu worked in the business office at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, NJ from 1979 until her retirement in 1992.
In 1995, Lu moved to E. Stroudsburg, PA and in 2005 to Phoenix, AZ to be near her daughters and grandchildren. Her priority was her family, and she was always there for them. Whether they needed a place to rest their head, advice or just to visit; her door was always open. Lu especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and celebrated every birthday, holiday, and sporting event with them. Eventually the phrase "I'm Nana's Favorite" became a playful phrase and friendly competition between the grandchildren at all get togethers.
It was no secret that Lu was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. She never missed a game, even when she moved to AZ. We could always tell if the Yankees won or lost by her mood that day. It was a special day for Lu when she attended "The Yankees Inside Experience" at Yankee Stadium where she was able to meet and have lunch with all the Yankee players, as well as watch them warm up from the dugout.
Lu is survived by her son, Joseph, daughter, Laurie; grandchildren, Mikayla, Jordyn, and Dakota Kirby, Jared, Joseph, and Jenna Schweissinger Riccobono, many nieces and nephews.
Lu is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Anna Rosato, her three siblings Frank, Anita Jencsik, Joann Lochli, and her daughter, Donna Riccobono.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave, Metuchen, NJ 08840. Family will greet guests from 1:30p-2:30p followed by a memorial service from 2:30p-3:30p. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association (www.lung.org) in Lu's honor.
