Lucille A. Roth, 99, of Waterbury, CT died on November 28, 2024 after a year of steadily declining health. She died at home at The Village At East Farms on 180 Scott Rd.
Lucy was born on August 8, 1925 to Leroy and Sarah Dorothy Hunter. She later married Robert E. Roth in August 1946.
Lucy spent part of her early life on her Aunt Vesta's farm picking potato bugs off plants, playing in the barn and with the animals until the farm was lost during the depression. After graduating high school, she attended Ohio State University and earned a BA in Liberal Arts. After graduating she met Robert and waited for him to return from World War II before they married. They had 3 children; Lynn M., Deborah A., and Steven L. Between having children Lucy became involved in The League of Women Voters after realizing how women were treated like 2nd class citizens without the rights that women enjoy today. She also became involved in helping refugees from Vietnam and Cambodia who lived in Danbury, CT and again when Robert and she lived in North Carolina.
Lucy always enjoyed puzzles and games such as jigsaw, crossword and sudoku. She loved to draw and paint. They always had a garden and enjoyed the fresh produce it gave them. Travel was something they did a great deal of after Robert retired and saw countries around the world. Later in life Lucy became interested and educated in investing their money as a way to have financial choice and control. As a result, she was able to be secure in her old age.
Lucy and Robert lived in many states during their lives which included Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina and Connecticut (Southport, Redding, Southbury and Waterbury). Some of these places they lived as a family and some as retired.
Lucy had outlived her siblings; her sister Elsie Hunter Pugh and her brother Donald Hunter. Those left to remember her were her grandchildren; April Thompson, Michelle Grant, Jason Angelica and Jordan Vela. Her great grandchildren are; Candra Burnett, JayLee Angelica, Ben Thompson, Silas Thompson, Sam Thompson, Grace Thompson, Shawn Masse, Rebecca Grant, Nichol Grant and Gordie Grant. Lucy had many lifelong friends. Some of them include Franklin and Florence Jones, Ginnie Wile, Josette Colbert and Jane Kondratovich.
A memorial gift in Lucille's name can be sent to Alzheimer's Association, American Heart Assoc. or Habitat for Humanity.
A memorial service will be scheduled for some time in the future. Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to care for Lucy's family and invites you to share your condolences on her tribute wall.
