Lucille Vissage, 99, wife of the late Jack "Mac" Hoyle Vissage, moved to her heavenly home on Friday, November 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of family and the grace of her Savior.
Lucille was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She lived most of her life on the mountain she loved, while serving, & encouraging the people she loved. Lucille's home was open to all! She fed the masses with a 5-pound roast, a pot of beans & a pan of her signature biscuits. She delighted in sewing curtains, clothes, and pillows for her family, pouring her love into every stitch. She didn't allow circumstance to prevent her from being a good friend. Lucille never had a driver's license, so she would walk to visit neighbor friends, always carrying a plate of whatever she had to share. She saw only the best in people, loving everyone unconditionally. Her spirit of encouragement continued especially on the days when her body was failing her. With a smile, she would say, "Today's gonna be a good day"
Her life beautifully reflected the words of Proverbs 31:28-29, Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also praises her: "Many women have done noble deeds, but you surpass them all!"
Lucille was born in Pickens, SC, to the late Marvin and Dora Lee Browning.
Lucille leaves behind a loving family including her children: Judy Raines of Walhalla, Jane Burch (Tom) of Mountain Rest, Mark Vissage (Jody) of Mountain Rest, and Greg Vissage (Karen) of Mountain Rest; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her siblings: Dick and Lloyd Browning, Pauline Muller, Eva Browning, Ona Robins, Thelma Wald and Mildred Butts.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 10, 2025, at Belmont Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Care Hospice, 634 Fairview Road,
Simpsonville, SC 29680. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Providence Care, for all their care, love and support over the years.
The family is at the home, 441 Whetstone Road, Mountain Rest, SC 29664.
