Lucio Antonio Herrera passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, August 19, 2022. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War– Tet Offense. A proud member of Second Platoon, C Troop, 3/4 CAV, 25th Infantry Division, survivor of Tan Son Nhut and Hoc Mon One, and Hoc Mon Two; a loyal friend and dedicated American, who received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. Returning from Vietnam in September of 1968, he began his career with Central Power & Light, now AEP, and retired after 33 years of service. Lucio was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. A man of great integrity and wit; however, if he ever offended anyone, it was his unique way of showing his love for you. Lucio was known as an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, bbq, and fish fries; however, Sundays were reserved for the Dallas Cowboys.
A man of many trades, Lucio proudly built each home his family lived in with his bare hands. God truly broke the mold when he made Lucio. He was a man worthy of respect, a joy to be around, and worth remembering. He will be immensely missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucio Cristobal and Presciliana Lilia Herrera; in-laws, Emilio and Paula Perez; nephew, Eddie Ray Gomez; and niece, Ana Marie Gomez.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Teresa Herrera; children, Evan J. (Theresa Ener) Herrera, Iris (Rolando) Silguero, and Georgina (AJ) Hernandez; grandchildren, Christian (Kelly) Herrera, Dante Herrera, Dusty, Teresa, and Lucio Silguero, Stella and Cruze Hernandez; great-grandchildren, Aviana and Avidan Silguero; siblings, Maria Luisa (David) Chavez, Armandina (Juventino) Gonzalez, Maria Elena Herrera, Lupita Herrera, Carmen (Juve) Morante, Oscar (Noelia) Herrera, Alvaro (Mary) Herrera, Jorge (Chelo) Herrera, and Frances (Louis) Montemayor; in-laws, Ana Saenz, Emilio (Elda) Perez, III, Elia (Virgil) Langford, Margie Perez, Angelica Perez, Larry (Leticia) Perez, Johnny (Ruby) Perez, Jorge (Carmen) Perez, Patsy (Rey) Ares, and Diana P. Moore; lifelong friends, Juan Sanchez, Roberto Garza, Homero Arce, Laredo, TX, and Julio Campos, Corpus Christi, TX,; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family will receive condolences on Monday, August 22, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Howard Williams Chapel, Hebbronville, TX; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral procession will depart the funeral chapel on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at 9:30 AM to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Hebbronville, TX, for a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM.
