IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR MOTHER

LUCY ZARAGOZA ARIAS

"MITA"

Lucy, affectionately known to many as "Mita" was born in East Chicago, Indiana. She lived 93 years of her life spending time with her loving children: Veronica A. Foresman of Highlands Ranch, CO., Ramona E. Arias-Nava (John) Nava of Griffith, IN., Rafael G. (Kristine) Arias, Jr. of Park Ridge, IL., James (Sandi) Arias of Winfield, IN., Felicia Arias- Guerrero (Rick) Guerrero of Lake Station, IN., and Blanca Arias-Del Rio (Jesus) Del-Rio of Hammond, IN. She celebrated life with 13 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She had numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucy was a graduate of East Chicago Washington. An accomplishment she was very proud of. She worked for Dr. James Harper's medical clinic in the Harborside of East Chicago for many years while raising a growing family. It was her zest for knowledge and books that found Lucy headed back towards a career in education. This is where many may remember her as she worked for the School City of East Chicago as an administrative secretary, retiring after 27 years of service. One of her proudest achievements while working in the SCEC, was being a part of the inception of the bilingual program. She met many parents and students while working at different schools, eventually earning the nickname "Mita". Lucy was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church up until her health declined. She was also a member of the "Old Timers" of EC Washington Alumni where she enjoyed reconnecting with old friends.

Lucy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Rafael G. Arias., "Pito", with whom they traveled, celebrated, and lived a loved life together; also preceded in death by her parents, Arnulo and Guadalupe Zaragoza. She is the last of her eight siblings: Margaret Soria, Salvador Nunez, Manuel Nunez, Raquel Lopez, Ignacia Gomez, Antonia Z. Bustamante, and Amelia Martinez.

She will be missed by the many pets she came across in the family and especially by her loving dog, Poncho.

Lucy was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, caregiver and much more. She will truly be missed as we all loved Lucy.

Visitation will be Monday, August 18, 2025, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with Funeral Services 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. at Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana. Burial at Ridgelawn Cemetery 4401 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408.
