Lucy Fretwell Brown, aged 83, departed this life on Monday, January 12, 2026, in Perdido, Alabama, where she had spent her entire life. A dedicated member of Pleasant Plains Holiness Church, she worked for many years as a seamstress at Vanity Fair Mills.

Her passions included cooking, sewing, and caring for children, and she cherished the moments spent with her family while nurturing her grandchildren. She found joy in preparing meals for the elders in her community, had a fondness for westerns and crime shows, and lovingly looked after Mr. Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlik Franklin Fretwell and Evelyn Dean Fretwell, along with her sister Annette Brown, brother Earl Fretwell, and son Franklin Brown.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, John Daniel Brown, of Perdido, Alabama; three daughters, Nadine (Neal) Jackson, of Perdido, Alabama; Tracy (Joey) Eady, of Perdido, Alabama; Dana (Ricky) Gerald, of Perdido, Alabama; two brothers, Ducky (Marsha) Fretwell, of Spanish Fort, Alabama; Danny Ray Fretwell, of Bay Minette, Alabama; three sisters, Callie (Jerry) Hall, of Perdido, Alabama; Judy (Wayland) Hadley, of Rabun, Alabama; Wanda (Larry) Hadley, of Lottie, Alabama; eleven grandchildren, Danyell Hicks, Sarah Hadley, Clay Hadley, Thomas Brown, Michael Brown, Icey Brown, Chasity Eady, Joy Gordon, Aspen Gerald, Kenneth Jeffers, Tabatha Eady; fifteen great-grandchildren, Dalton, Kyndal, Ryker, Dakota, Gage, River, Ridge, Brantley, Parker, Austin, Alyssa, Aleigha, Ana Laiton, Amerleigh, Aylix, three great-great-grandchildren, Karter, Kassie, Riley and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Petty Funeral Homes, LLC, led by Reverend James Peacock and Sister Helen Stewart.

After the service, she will be laid to rest at Brown Cemetery, Perdido, Alabama.

Visitation will occur on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 12:00 PM until the service starts at 1:00 PM at Petty Funeral Homes, LLC.

The pallbearers will be Clay Hadley, Dalton Hicks, Darian Hicks, Thomas Brown, Michael Brown and Jeff Parker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Gerald, Joey Eady, Neal Jackson, Nick Sanspree and Robbie Aaron.

Arrangements are being managed by Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC in Atmore, Alabama.
