Lucy Ann was born on April 5, 1944 in Shaw Mississippi to the late Thomas and Yvonne McEvans. She was the youngest of three and named after her grandmother Lucy Ann Jackson. Soon after her arrival the family moved to Michigan where she completed her education in the Hamtramck school district.
Lucy graduated early from Hamtramck High and attended the Ohio State University where she majored in Chemistry. She pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated on April 28th 1962. She received her first job prior to graduating from college at Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) where she worked for over 50 years.
Lucy was an avid sports enthusiast. She enjoyed playing tennis with her sister Gwen. She was a season ticket holder at the Ohio State University and on any given day you could catch her glued to the television watching football, baseball or basketball.
Lucy married Stanley Dixon and from this union Tor Ali was born in 1973. Tor was the apple of her eye and her love of sports became even more magnified as she played a major role in Tor playing football and baseball. She was a member of the Booster Club, chaperoning events and participating in the ski club with Tor. Lucy was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where she served in various capacities. Her love for the Lord transcended in every aspect of her life.
Lucy's love and dedication to her family was immeasurable. Everyone knew that if you called Lucy to prepare to be on the phone for hours as she brought you up to date on everything she could think of. She was affectionately known to so many as Aunt Lucy but her favorite role was Grandma to her only grandchild Madison. She was also known as Grandma Lucy to Madison's sisters. There wasn't a play, birthday party, family reunion, graduation or sporting event that she did not attend. She traveled near and far to support her loved ones. The younger children knew that when she showed up to events to expect goodies from her. She enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida. Later in life she took great pride in gardening and would spend hours in her yard.
Lucy was a pillar of strength. She overcame several health challenges over the years and each time her faith never wavered. She was incredibly grateful for all the love, prayers and support that she received during this last health challenge.
Lucy went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday December 2, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Yvonne McEvans, sister Gwendolyn and sister-in-law Carline McEvans. She leaves to mourn her death son, Tor Dixon, granddaughter, Madison Diamond, brother Thomas McEvans, nieces and nephews Thomas Michael, Charlene (Rodney) Thompson, Gerry(Anthea), Tasha, Tarrence, Tiffany, Chad, Christopher, Jordan, Cameron, Cheyenne, Cierra, Jayden, Ava, Christian, Collin and great nephews Kayden and Karter.
