Lucy Maria Hernandez Mendoza, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many passed away peacefully on the morning of February 22nd, 2025 in Anaheim, California. Lucy was born in Huntington Beach, California in 1933 to Jose and Tomasa Hernandez. The youngest of 10 children. She was raised in the small Mexican community of The Colonia Juarez in Fountain Valley, California.
Lucy raised her six children in Santa Ana and later in Dana Point, where she lived for 44 years. Lucy knew everyone in town and formed lasting relationships. She loved living by the ocean and was at peace living just a short distance away from the beach on Ruby Lantern Street. When she wasn't working she loved spending time with her kids and grandchildren. She'd take them to play down at the beach and they spent time playing in the sand and ocean as she watched.
Lucy enjoyed gardening and was known for having a green thumb. She enjoyed spending time tending to her beautiful garden with many potted plants. Lucy loved to barbeque for the family and always looked forward to decorating her place for Christmas. She was also an animal lover and had a cat companion or two by her side.
Lucy worked for 40 years as a caregiver and took great pride in her occupation. She was loved by her care recipients and by all who knew her. Lucy will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her delicious cooking and her warm, caring ways. Lucy was a good listener and easy to talk to which drew people to her. Lucy will be missed by all who were privileged to have known her.
Lucy is preceded in death by her son Jack and survived by her children Olga, Victor, Rodney, Randy, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lucy's ashes will be scattered off the coast of Dana Point in a private gathering with her children and grandchildren.
