It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved grandmother Lucy Martinez, on September 20, 2024. She was 97 years old.
Born on June 19, 1927, in Oakland Ca, Lucy lived a full vibrant life. She was the loving wife of Daniel Martinez Sr. Together they raised 3 boys, Dan Jr., Joe, and John. Lucy and Dan were married for 60 years.
Lucy worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Company as a line inspector for 45 years before retirement.
After retirement, Lucy enjoyed walking the San Leandro Marina daily with her husband Dan. They also traveled all over Mexico together.
Lucy had a love for baking raspberry pies as well as her famous lemon cake. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching old country westerns. As a long time A's fan, Lucy watched and even listened to the games on the radio, if a television was not available. She was a baseball mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Something she took great pride in.
During get togethers and holidays Lucy looked forward to a good game of dominos with a lemon drop martini in hand. She played very well up until the near end, and would always say "it's your turn", if you were taking too long.
Lucy was a foodie. She enjoyed eating good food and had an amazing appetite. Eating her cereal or pastry with her coffee in the mornings was something she enjoyed daily.
As a woman of great faith, Lucy attended St John's church for many years. She loved her family very much and will be missed greatly.
Lucy was preceded in death by husband Daniel Sr and son Joseph. She is survived by her 2 sons Dan and John and their respective wives, Carol and Kathy. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren, her sister Lena and many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on October 15, 024 at 11:00am
