Lucy Saas, 93, of Old Route 422 in Slipper Rock Township, died Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Quality Life Services in New Castle. She was born on March 18, 1930, in New Castle, the daughter of the late John and Theresa (Mitlo) Mastropietro. She was married to the late James R. Saas, who died on May 15, 1995. She worked at UPMC Jameson Hospital as a Nurse's Aide for 2 years, and then retired from Universal Rundle after 25 years as a Fiber Glass Roller. Mrs. Saas was a life member of VFW Post 315 Axillary. She was an avid sports fan and Pittsburgh's sports fan and enjoyed bingo. She also loved her grandchildren and loved going to their games and functions.
She is survived by two children, JoAnne Vitale and her husband Donald, and Pamela M. Knapp both of New Castle, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, twelve great great-grandchildren, one sister, Rose Marie Rossetti and husband Louie of New Castle, two stepsisters, Linda Ollie and Sylvia Rashid.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, John L. Biddle, one son-in-law, Robert P. Knapp, three brothers, Nick Mastropietro, Joseph Mastropietro, and John Mastropietro, and one sister, Francis Lemmon.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 2 PM to 4 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. Funeral services will be celebrated Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home. Pastor Kristopher Kauffman will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
