Lucy Marshall Akerman Taft went peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Meadow Lake Senior Living Community in Tyler, Texas after completing her journey with cancer.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025 at 12 p.m. at Waco Memorial Funeral Home.
Lucy was born on August 12, 1942, in Miami, Florida to Alexander “Alex” Akerman, Jr. and Marian Russell Marshall. She wrote poetry, was an avid gardener and was an amazing cook. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Baylor University in Waco. She enjoyed being a homemaker where she was able to devote time to her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family whom she dearly loved.
She served her Lord Jesus Christ through her loyalty and love for her family and friends. She was often in the garden or the kitchen and loved to support others through a helping hand or a kind word. She was known for her sense of humor and quick knowledge.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Alexander “Andy” Akerman, III, and her aunts Eleanor Keyser and Genie Carson.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 63 years, Paul E. Taft, Jr.; son Paul E. Taft, III and wife Linda, grandchildren Chelsea Taft Fewell (Stephen), Jonathan Akerman Taft (Keri), Lillie Marshall Taft (Matthew), Callie Russell Taft (Michael), great grandchildren, Adley and Jett Fewell, Bentley and Swayzie Taft; daughter, Marian Cameron, grandchildren, Cody Koonsman, Marshall Cameron, Emily Cameron; son, Phillip R. Taft and wife, Julie; grandchildren, Eleanor “Ella” Taft and Alexander “Alex” Taft.
