Luis "Lucho" Guillermo Chinchilla, age 70, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 31, 2023, after a heroic battle with cancer. He was at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children.
A celebration of Lucho's life will be held at Unity Presbyterian Church at 4:00 pm on Monday, February 6th, 2023. Rev. Mark Verdery will officiate the service. The family will receive friends following the service in the church's Historic Sanctuary.
Born in Costa Rica, Lucho was a son of Alvaro Chinchilla Chavarria (d.2013) and Maria Amable Gonzalez Gonzalez. He met the love of his life, Annette, while they were both working with the Peace Corp. After marrying in Costa Rica, he returned home with her where he was welcomed by her family and the wonderful community of Fort Mill. Lucho owned his own business, Evergreen Gardening, and was a Master Gardener. He loved working outdoors, playing the guitar, storytelling and spending time with his family. Lucho is survived by his wife of 33 years, Annette Jones Chinchilla; their children, Fiorella (Mauricio), Luis (Allison), Susana (Bill), Ana Gabriela, Andres (Kaylyn); and his eight siblings. The light of his life were his grandchildren, Amelia, Elena, Camila, Will, Max and Mateo.
Lucho and his family would like to thank Dr. Claude Grigg, Jessica Krousel, RN, and the amazing staff at Levine Cancer Institute for their wonderful support and care of his illness. He is now "dancing in heaven!"
