It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Luis Diaz, who departed this world on December 12, 2025, at the Englewood Hospital in
Englewood, NJ. Born on December 29, 1939, in Havana, Cuba, Luis lived a life rich with love, knowledge, and service to others. He was 85 years old.
Luis was a devoted husband to his beloved Wife, Maria Carmen Diaz, whom he married on January 4, 1975, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Together they shared over 50 years of marriage, creating a family and a legacy built on unwavering love and support. Luis was also a cherished father to his children, Jordi and Jennifer. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Luis was the son of Luis Diaz who was born in Matanzas and Josefina Magin, who was born in Havana, Cuba, and his family was of utmost importance to him. He was a devoted Son, Husband and Father, and his quick wit and unwavering kindness endeared him to many. As an individual with a thirst for knowledge, Luis was well-educated, having attended the Pious Schools of Havana and the University of Havana, where he earned an Associate's Degree. He furthered his education at Fordham University, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. His dedication to learning extended throughout his life, and he proudly spoke five languages fluently.
Professionally, Luis made significant contributions during his 30-plus years at the United Nations in New York, where he served as an editor and translator. His work reflected his commitment to fostering communication and understanding across cultures. Beyond his professional life, Luis was deeply involved in his community, serving as an elected board member of the North Bergen Board of Education for over 20 years, serving as Board President in his final year, advocating for the education and well-being of future generations.
In his personal life, Luis had a variety of hobbies and interests. He loved to read, enjoying the worlds and ideas brought to life by literature. A lover of the arts, he found great joy in traveling, attending theater productions and opera performances. Classical music resonated with him, often providing the soundtrack for moments of reflection and happiness.
The Family takes comfort in the outpouring of love and support they have received during this time of unimaginable grief. They wish to convey their heartfelt appreciation to all those who have reached out with condolences and well-wishes.
