Luis ‘Wicho’ Ortiz, Sr. was born on July 7, 1957, in San Antonio, TX to Isabel Ortiz, Sr. and Paula Luna Ortiz. He died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the age of 68.
‘Wicho’, as known to many, enjoyed spending time with his family and had a love for the sport of pool in which he participated in a countless number of pool tournaments. Wicho was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Serving 12 years, Luis was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
Preceded in death are parents, Isabel and Paula Ortiz; sisters, Olga Ortiz Garcia and Oralia Zamarripa; brother, Guadalupe ‘Pito’ Ortiz; and mother-in-law, Gloria Lucio Olivo.
He survives his spouse of 48 years, Cynthia Olivo Ortiz, and his children, June Olivo, Julie Ortiz, Luis ‘Gordo’ Ortiz, Jr (Elvia), Judy Ortiz (Arturo), Paul Flores, Jr., April Garcia, Albert Garcia, Adam Garcia (Yadira), and Cynthia Mae Garcia. He is also survived by his brothers, Reyes Ortiz, Isabel Ortiz, Jr, and Francisco Ortiz; sisters, Paula Cavazos, Maria Serrano, and Yolanda Luna; and 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Luis’ family will receive condolences on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara @ Port Ave., from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM; with a Holy Rosary to begin at 12:30 PM. Rite of Committal and Interment with Full Military Honors will begin at 2:00 PM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Flores, John Ortiz, Albert Garcia, Izaak Flores, Julien Contreras, Jesus Garcia, Jayden Garcia, and Cynthia Garcia. Accompanying honorary pallbearers will be Luis ‘Gordo’ Ortiz, Andrew Flores, Adrian Flores, and Mark Posada.
