Luis Geraldo Rivera, Sr., age 50 of Red Oak, Texas passed away on September 9, 2025. He was born on August 10, 1975 in Long Beach, California to Jose Luis Rivera and Maria Mata. Luis grew up in El Paso, Texas where he graduated from Bel Air High School with the Class of 1992 and later attended the University of Texas at El Paso. On November 19, 1997 he married his high school sweetheart Adriana Corral and together they were blessed with three wonderful children. He worked at the Southern New Mexico Correctional facility in Las Cruces, New Mexico for 16 years before relocating with his family to Ellis county in 2023 where he served as a STG Correctional officer at the Hutchins State Prison. Luis was a man of remarkable depth and resilience. While his outward demeanor was tough or even intimidating, those who truly knew him understood the profound kindness, sensitivity, and generosity that defined his character. Luis was known for his goofy wit, laughter, and his endless story telling. He loved himself, making people laugh and never hesitated to offer advice whether asked for or not. Luis was deeply devoted to his family. He was dependable, supportive, and very proud of his children. In his younger years, he coached their Little League baseball teams, teaching not just the game but lessons of dedication and teamwork. He passed down his love of cars and mechanics, a skill he learned from his father. An avid sports fan, Luis cheered faithfully for the New York Yankees, enjoyed following fantasy football, and was a loyal supporter of the LA Lakers. He enjoyed keeping a well groomed lawn, casting a line and spending time at Cedar Creek Lake with family and friends. He spent endless hours at the gym, lifting weights while admiring his progress in the mirror. His pride and joy was his Big Red Chevy Silverado. He adored his beloved mastiffs, Kahlúa and Apollo who are now by his side. Luis will be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor, his generous heart and his unwavering devotion to his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father Jose Luis Rivera and son Luis Geraldo Rivera, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Adriana Rivera; son Jordan Rivera; daughter Charissma Rivera; mother Maria Rivera; brothers: Zira and wife Christine Rivera, Zake Rivera, Zoro and wife Corina Rivera, Edgar Rivera and Alex Rivera; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
