With heavy hearts we mourn the passing of our beloved Luiz Ferraz de Campos Neto, known to many only as Neto, who left this world on December 12, 2024, at the age of 65. Though born in Brazil, Luiz made New York his home. He started his family in Queens, his business in Brooklyn, and his dream house in the Catskills.
Luiz lived a full and beautiful life, centered always around his family. The one he was born into, the one he created with his wife Celia, the one he married into, and the one he chose. His generosity and warmth will live on through them.
A talented woodworker, Luiz's creativity and perfectionism set him apart. He left his fingerprint on every renovation project and piece of furniture he imagined into existence. The home he designed with his family in the Catskills will stand as a testament to his craft and his welcoming nature.
Outside of work, Luiz was an avid traveler. He had regular fishing trips to the Amazon river. With his wife, and often family in tow, he traveled the globe. Most recently they traveled to Croatia, Foz do Iguaçu, Alaska, and Brazil's wine region - Rio Grande do Sul - with which he was enchanted. His love of all things outdoors started early. He spent many school breaks with his extended family on their ranch in Brazil. His passion for working the land was evident in how he spent his time with his family in the Catskills. With his tractor and his pick-up truck, through self-education and formal courses, he and his wife shaped their surroundings to create a sense of wonder, and also functionality, for themselves and others. In their co-op, he was known for shaking things up and ruffling feathers while always delivering something beautiful everyone could enjoy. As such, it's not surprising that he was also a fixture in the community of Brazilian Catholics in Astoria. Welcoming newcomers and building ties is how he grew his chosen family. He organized events and volunteered his time and his craft to St. Rita's church for many years.
Luiz will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched, and his memory lives on through the laughter he brought to this world. Though he may be gone, the love he gave freely to others remains.
Luiz is predeceased by both his parents. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Celia de Campos; children, Barbara and Juliana; siblings, Ana Paula and Haroldo; granddaughters, Alice and Helena; and a tribe of extended family and friends.
A visitation to celebrate the full, rich life of Luiz will be held at Drago Funeral Home at 43-10 30th Avenue on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rita's on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 10:00 am.
It was Luiz's wish that in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes be made in his name in the form of charitable donations to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, American Heart Association, or one of your choosing.

Dear Celia,
Richard and I are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this sad time. Luiz will be missed. He was such a wonderful and colorful addition to our country community upstate.

Luiz created beautiful, original, artistic and striking objects and environments that caught the eye and left one inspired. I am thinking of a chandelier in his home, that I saw only once, constructed from the springs of a car chassis. Or a massive wooden table, girded by lead strips (am I remembering this correctly?), or a ring of perfumed yellow daffodils, nested in the woods surrounding the family home. Luiz loved tranquility and I saw him often lakeside in the Catskills in his boat or afloat fishing, with not a ripple about him. May this peace always be his.
