Luke Lu Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Family Choice Funerals & Cremations on Mar. 17, 2026.
Luke Y. Lu, a devoted family man and esteemed restaurateur and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully at his home on March 15, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was 80 years old. Luke was born in China on May 12, 1945, and then fled with his family to Taiwan in 1969 after the Chinese Civil War when he was 4 years old.

After growing up in Tainan, Taiwan, he immigrated to the United States in 1969. Over the course of 35 years, he built a successful career alongside his brothers and wife, owning and managing several restaurants and a market, including Blue Hawaii, China Garden, Asia Garden, and 88 Asian Supermarket.

He was known for his big smile, generosity, and kindness towards his family, friends, and all those he worked with.

He was predeceased by his father, Tai-Yuan Lu; his mother, Chia-Hsuan Lee Lu; and his brother, Peter Lu. Luke was the fifth of eight children.

Luke is survived and forever cherished by his wife, Betty Lu; his daughter, Joann Lu Yung, and her husband, Jason Yung; his son, Allen Lu; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Lu, Kaylee Yung, Ellis Yung, and Cody Yung. He also leaves behind his brothers, John Lu, Peter Lu, Nelson Lu, Jack Lu, and Richard Lu, and his sister, Ju-Wei Lu, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Outside of work, Luke cherished traveling and spending time with his beloved wife of 53 years. He had a great appreciation for good food, especially sushi, spicy Chinese food, and ice cream and enjoyed sharing meals with family and friends. At family gatherings, he enjoyed capturing memories through photos and videos. He also found great joy in playing games and watching sports, especially cheering for the Washington Commanders, the Los Angeles Lakers, and any team his nephews played on.

Though he has departed from this world, Luke's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and forever held in the hearts of his family and friends.

A private memorial service will be held with family. The family is grateful for your love and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Luke Lu to the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC), a nonprofit organization that supports Chinese immigrant families: https://bcnc.net/donate/
