Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ideal Funeral Parlor - Florence on May 18, 2025.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Lula Waddell, 89 of Effingham, South Carolina, who transitioned on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Deaconess Lula Robinson Waddell, nickname Natlie, was born in Pamplico, South Carolina, on July 10, 1935, to parents Rev. Oscar Robinson and Mrs. Mable Hawkins Robinson.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She later moved to New York and remained there for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York under the leadership of Rev. Clarence Norman. She was the entrepreneur of Deschamps Hair Salon in Brooklyn, New York. After retiring as a licensed cosmetologist, she relocated to Effingham, South Carolina, and joined Meadow Prong Baptist Church. In 2002, she joined Effingham Baptist Church under the pastoral ship of Reverend Troy Shaw and remained an active member until her health declined. Over the years, she served as a Deaconess, Missionary Ministry member, member of the Senior Choir, Sunday School Teacher and VBS Coordinator. Once her health declined, she began attending church with her nephew Randolph at "Stronger With the Word Training Ministries", where she was appointed the "Mother" of the Church.
Deaconess Waddell was a confessed woman of God. She firmly believed in leading by example. She was a people person - rarely met a stranger. She enjoyed driving, visiting/checking on the sick and shut-in at home and in the hospitals. She engaged with others in conversations, sharing her wisdom and knowledge on our Lord and Savior. She loved and enjoyed her family; she looked forward to every opportunity she could share with her family, especially their family reunions.
Two weeks before her passing, Deaconess Waddell told her nephew (Randolph), "It's finished - give me a kiss". She kissed him three times. On Friday, May 16, 2025, she entered into eternal rest peacefully.
In addition to her parents, Deaconess Waddell was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Frederick Waddell, of Brooklyn, New York; three brothers (Ray, Daniel, Nathan) and one sister (Gladys).
Those left to cherish Deaconess Lula Waddell's Legacy and Memories are her nephews, Randolph Thomas, Harvey & Peggy Thomas, James Thomas, Niece Myra Thomas, Niece Deborah Robinson, Niece Maxine Robinson Jackson and Shirley Robinson, nephews Nathaniel Robinson, Michael Robinson, Michael T Robinson, God-daughter Tamara Smith and a host of other family members and friends.
The family wishes to thank the medical providers, CNAs at Carlyle Senior Care Kingstree and personal caretakers for their care of Deaconess Lula Waddell. We are sincerely grateful and thankful.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this time of loss and remembrance.
