Luther Akemon

Luther Akemon, 78, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on May 16, 2024, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on October 1, 1945 in Scottsburg, Indiana, to the late Robert Akemon and Ester (Combs) Akemon. After graduating from Scottsburg High School, Luther enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for over two decades, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant before his honorable discharge on August 3, 1987. In his free time Luther enjoyed flying RC helicopters and spent a lot of time at the Scottsburg flying fields. On March 2, 1965 Luther married Evelyn Hayes, she preceded him in death on January 8, 2016. Luther married Janet (Pitcher) Akemon on May 17,2017, and she survives. Luther is preceded in death by his parents; son, Luther Allen and James Luther Akemon; daughter, Susan Lynn Akemon; step grandchildren, John Amick, Jr and Jennifer Amick. Luther is survived by his wife, Janet Akemon; son, Daniel Akemon; daughter, Terri Akemon; two step sons, John (Michelle) Amick, William (Melissa) Amick; step daughter, Sherry (Ben) Petty; two sisters, Willena (Paul) McIntosh and Carol (Larry) Bunch; one brother, Bobby Akemon; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Freddy) Soto, Kathryn Schemmel, Autumn (Jeremy) Ohanis, Ashley Davidson, Danielle Akemon and Tristan Akemon; and nine step grandchildren, Robert Amick, Tony Amick, Kiana Petty, Amanda Amick-Lytle, Joe Taylor, Cheyenne Holman, Christa Mitchell, Justine Keys, and Bryce Petty. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Violet Ohanis, Luke and Noah Soto. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. A Military service will be held after the visitation at 5:30 pm on Tuesday. Following the service, Luther's family will be having a pitch in dinner at the Celebration Hall in Scottsburg, Indiana at 6:00pm.Cremation services have been entrusted to Collins Funeral Home.
