Luther Thomas Riddle Sr., 81 of Narrows Virginia. Passed away on Saturday July 19th in Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was preceded and death by his parents, Tom and Bea Riddle, sister Sheila Lilly and nephew Tommy Lilly.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Bernice "Tootie" Duff Riddle of Narrows Virginia. Daughter Lynn Mosley, (Leon) of Smithfield Va. Melissa Benton (Marvin) of Narrows Va. Mitzi West (Charlie) of Portsmouth Va. Sons Luther Thomas Riddle Jr. (Sheri) of Portsmouth Va and Tony Ray Riddle (Tabitha) of Narrows Va. One brother, Allen Riddle (Teresa) of Narrows Va. 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, with one more expected in November. One niece and nephew and his 2 best buddies, his dogs Buddy and Baby.
Luther grew up in Narrows and was a graduate of the class of 1963 of Narrows High School and played on the football team. He served in the U S Army after high school before moving to southeastern Virginia where Tootie's family lived. Luther worked at Celanese and Va Power and Electric Company before becoming a truck driver first for Coca-Cola then tractor trailers. However, his life was surrounded around his children and grandchildren. He was the little league coach for the boys in baseball and football and the girls were in cheerleading. He enjoyed seeing his children involved in sports. He enjoyed having his grandchildren ride along with him in his big rig and hide in the bunk at weigh stations. Luther was never more proud than when his grandson, Anthony (Spank), followed his footsteps and made a career of the Army or watching his youngest grandson, Brody, play football on the same field as his Alumni, Narrows High School. He enjoyed playing poker with friends. Fishing and hunting and listening to music. Luther was a loving brother, husband, father and gramps and will be missed by his very full family.
The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM in Birchlawn Burial Park with Connie Richardson officiating and military honors will be presented by the US Army, and American Legion Posts 68, 311, and145.
