Alpha: March 31, 1926 Omega: February 24, 2025
Luvenia Sanders peacefully entered the presence of God on February 24, 2025, at the age of 98. Luvenia was born on March 31, 1926, in Columbia County, Emerson Arkansas to David Sherman and Ardie Rogers Sherman. Luvenia has resided in Arkansas, Nebraska, and Missouri. In Kansas City, she established her career, lifetime friendships and church connections.
Luvenia attended Magnolia Colored High School in Magnolia, Arkansas and Philander Smith College in Little Rock, AK. Once moving to Omaha, Luvenia enrolled in Nursing School where she completed her Licensed Practical Nursing training. She worked for many years in a hospital until she moved to Kansas City and acquired a state government teaching position in early childhood education. She worked in this position until she retired. In her later years, she returned to Omaha to reunite with her sisters. Luvenia lived many years at the Salvation Army Durham Booth Manor Senior housing until a stroke impaired her memory resulting in a reluctant move to St. Joseph Towers. Her final days were spent in the loving, compassionate, and skilled care of Maplecrest Health Center from September 2021 to present.
Luvenia was a member of Church of God in Christ for many years. She loved the Lord and dedicated her life to serving Christ at an early age (6 years old) preaching the gospel to all who listened. Luvenia loved to travel. She attended the Roger’s family reunions, church convocations, and participated in a missionary trip to Africa. Luvenia made lasting bonds impacting so many lives, young and old. She was a mentor, friend, blessing, and inspiration to others. Luvenia will be truly missed (her smile, singing, preaching, and words of encouragement). She has been described as to likeness of Elijah. Luvenia is now dancing and shouting in the presence of God.
Luvenia leaves to mourn nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Luvenia was preceded in death by her Children, Kenneth Sherman and Duane Sanders, her parents, Ardie & David Sherman, and her sisters, Mae Della Tarver, Margaret Rose and a brother, Tradis Sherman.
