Lydia Graciela Gonzalez, 76, of Laredo, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025 surrounded by family. A Laredo resident, Lydia was a beacon of light, faith, and kindness to everyone she met.

After earning her nursing degree from Texas Woman's University, Lydia dedicated her life to caring for others. She found her true calling as a school nurse, where she nurtured countless young children with an endless supply of love and patience. Even after retirement, she continued her education, staying up to date on the latest medical knowledge.

Lydia was married to the love of her life, Marcial Ruben Gonzalez, for 55 wonderful years. She was welcomed and loved by her husband's family, finding a second home and a second family with them. Together, they enjoyed traveling and cherished their time in Bustamante, Nuevo León, especially participating in their festivals and church celebrations. She travelled with her dear husband to Italy, England, Scotland, Alaska, Cuba, and their most recent family trip was Branson, MO. Lydia's generosity knew no bounds. She was the heart of her community, from organizing Easter egg hunts to sharing her medical expertise. She also loved baking the most delicious cakes and candied pecans, crafting, and cheering on her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Lydia will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, Ruben; her son, Javier (Clelia) of St. Louis, Missouri; her daughters, Claudia Gonzalez of Austin, Texas, and Sylvia Gonzalez of Dallas, Texas; and her three grandsons, Andres, Christian, and Jacob. Her legacy of love, service, and a life well-lived will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family will be receiving guests on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The chapel will reopen at 7:00 am on Friday, August 22, 2025 to depart at 8:20 am for a service at Faith Lutheran Church at 9 am. Interment will follow to the City of Laredo Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are by Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services, 1320 Trey Dr., Laredo, Texas 78041 (956) 723-3611.

She will be missed by her husband, children and her grandchildren.
