Born on May 14, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, Lydia made a lasting impact in the lives of many through her unwavering commitment to her career and her family.
Lydia's professional journey as a secretary at Massapequa High School not only showcased her remarkable skills and love for education but also allowed her to forge meaningful relationships with students and colleagues alike. Her warm demeanor and generous spirit made her a cherished presence within the school community.
Lydia is survived by her loving husband, Walter Hellmich, and their three sons: Walter, Gary, and Bruce (Maureen). She was also a proud grandmother to three grandchildren, Bruce (Denise) , Brian and Sean, whom she adored and enjoyed spending time with, and her great-grandson, Brendan. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Elise Vogel, whose influence shaped her character and values.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on January 16, 2026, at Mangano Family Funeral Home Of Middle Island, located at 640 Middle Country Rd, Middle Island, NY. The visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Lydia will find her final resting place at Pinelawn Memorial Park, with burial services scheduled for January 17, 2026, beginning at 10:30 AM.
