David M. Hellmich, age 81, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the VA Medical Center in Tomah, WI.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
David was born October 13, 1943 in Milwaukee, WI to David and Sally (Meka) Hellmich. He served his country in the United States Air Force as an engineer during the Vietnam War from 1963-1967, and received many accolades during his service. He married Marilyn King on February 10, 1969 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. She passed away on March 25, 2015.
He was employed by Consolidated Papers Inc. in the Biron Division for 35 years, retiring in 2003.
David had a strong love for the outdoors. His favorite pastimes included hunting, camping, and spending time in the woods. He enjoyed woodworking and had a craft business with his wife Marilyn for over 30 years. There was a special joy he found in being with his grandchildren. David was a very dedicated caregiver to his wife Marilyn for many years.
David is survived by his son Scott (Michelle) Hellmich of Wisconsin Rapids and their children: Benjamin (Hannah) Hellmich of Washington and Savanah, Sabina, and Madeline Hellmich of Wisconsin Rapids; his daughter Stacy (Chris) McClure and their children: Allyson and Ian of Reedsburg, WI; and his sister, MaryAnn (Jim) Smrz of Junction City. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marilyn.
