Lynda Seymour Stainback, 77, formerly of Atlantic, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Alamance Health Care Center in Burlington, NC.
A memorial service to honor Lynda’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 21st at the First Baptist Church of Davis, officiated by Reed Jarvis. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Lynda will be laid to rest privately at Atlantic Community Cemetery.
Lynda was born on April 12, 1948, in St. Augustine, Florida, to the late Edgar and Ora Seymour. She moved several places during her childhood due to her father's time in the military and eventually ended up at Cherry Point in Havelock where she graduated from Havelock High School. Four years later, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Methodist College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She continued on to get her Master's Degree from UNC Chapel Hill.
Lynda had a teacher's heart and was an excellent and creative teacher for her students. She spent 39 years teaching either elementary or special needs students in schools in Craven, Alamance, and Carteret Counties. During her time teaching in Alamance County, she met her husband, Jimmy. They would eventually move to Atlantic where she would continue teaching and caring for her mother.
Lynda used her love for teaching in her church. She taught Sunday School for the kids at Atlantic Baptist Church. Later on she became known as an exceptional adult Sunday School teacher at Davis Baptist Church. She loved her church family and enjoyed hearing from them during her illness.
Lynda had not only a love to teach others but also for animals. She always had cats or dogs with her. Her smile was always a little bigger when she saw a furry friend.
In addition to her parents, Lynda was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Jimmy Stainback and her fur babies, Bonnie and Clyde.
Thank you to everyone who sent cards, prayed, and showed your love to Lynda during her illness. She was truly blessed to have had so many wonderful friends and neighbors.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Davis, 130 Community Rd, Davis, NC 28524.
