Provo, Utah – With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Lynn McDowell Jacobson, a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and dedicated community leader, who passed away on November 7, 2025, in Provo, Utah, at the age of 95. Lynn peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion and unwavering faith,
Lynn was born on October 25, 1930, in Provo, Utah, the son of Glen E. and Emma McDowell Jacobson, and was raised on a dairy farm in southwest Provo. Lynn attended school in Provo, graduating from Provo High School in 1948 and from Brigham Young University in 1955. He married Jean Folsom of Hillspring, Alberta, Canada, in the Manti Tempe May 14, 1953. He and Jean were the parents of three children, Loretta, Linda Jean (deceased in 1982) and one son, Dennis of Elk Ridge, Utah. Jean passed away December 25, 1979. Lynn married Patricia Ann Thuma Wade on June 6, 1981, in the Provo Temple. Through this marriage he became the father to her four daughters, Christine, Susan, Leslie, and Jennifer. Both Jean and Patricia preceded him in death, but their memory remained a meaningful part of his journey.
Lynn's life was guided by his deep faith and commitment to serving others. A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he faithfully fulfilled a mission in the Pacific Northwest, where he touched many lives and strengthened his devotion to the gospel. His commitment to his faith was evident throughout his life, inspiring his children and grandchildren to follow his example of love, compassion, and service.
After returning from his mission, Lynn attended Brigham Young University, earning a degree in chemistry. Lynn worked for U.S. Steel for forty-two years as a chemist, metallurgist and computer system designer. Lynn built a respected career at U. S. Steel, known for his integrity and strong work ethic. He worked at Geneva Works in Utah for twenty-eight years, at the corporation headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA, and later as a customer rep in the Western States. Lynn retired from U.S. Steel in 1993. Later, he served a four-year term as mayor of Elkridge, Utah, and for several years as a volunteer fireman in Elk Ridge. where his dedication to public service and his vision for the community left a legacy and put Elk Ridge on the map.
In addition to serving a mission in the Northwestern States from 1950 to 1952, he served a stake mission in 1962 and served a third mission with his wife Pat in the St. George Member Locator Mission. He has served in Priesthood leadership callings, in three bishoprics, High Council, as a temple ordinance worker, Scout leader and as a teacher in Priesthood and Sunday School. His favorite calling was as the gospel doctrine teacher.
He was the anchor of his family, always putting their needs before his own and cherishing every moment spent together. His home was filled with laughter, warmth, and the teaching of Christ, which he shared generously with all who entered. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures – family gatherings, Frank Sinatra and sharing stories of faith, family, and church history.
Lynn was an avid temple goer, finding peace and inspiration in regular attendance and service. He had a lifelong passion for church history and enjoyed collecting coins, often sharing stories behind his favorite pieces. During his prime, Lynn loved hunting and camping and cherished opportunities to work with scouts, mentoring young men and sharing his enthusiasm for the outdoors. His testimony and example of living the gospel were a guiding light, touching the lives of friends, neighbors, and community members alike. His gentle spirit, sage advice and steadfast support will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving children: Loretta Ruth Jacobson Rickards (Glenn), Dennis Glen Jacobson (Gaylene), Christine Wade, Susan Wade, Leslie Richardson, and Jennifer Malo. Lynn was also the proud grandfather of thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren who will continue to celebrate his remarkable journey and take comfort in the knowledge that families are forever. He is also survived by his sister Vena Lee Cannon. His earthly mission is complete, but his influence and memory will endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Lynn will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his devotion to his family, and his tireless commitment to helping others. His warmth, wisdom, and selfless service will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with a viewing prior at 9:30 a.m., at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah. Interment will follow in the Provo City Cemetery, Provo, Utah.
