Dorothy Marlene Holmes Nuttall returned to her Heavenly Father, November 13, 2025.
She was surrounded by her family as she slipped from her earthly home.
She is the daughter of William Chantrey Holmes and Dorothy Elizabeth Hodson of Wilson. She was born June 4, 1948. She attended Wilson Elementary, Wahlquist Jr. High and graduated from Weber High School, class of 1966. She received a B.S. degree in education from Brigham Young University in May of 1970. While at BYU she agreed to go on a blind date with a young man named David Nuttall. That first date was a tender mercy as both were told that this was the one. Dave and Marlene were married just three months later on June 4, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple. At the time of her passing, they have been married almost 55 1/2 years. She is the mother of 6 children: Jared (passed away shortly after birth), Heather (Neal) Nelson, Amy, Lisa, Jon (Audrie), Jason (Kelsey). She is the beloved grandmother of 12 (soon to be 13), and 1 (soon to be 2) great grandchildren.
She is a lifelong, active, and devout 5th generation member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Marlene has served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She especially enjoyed serving in Primary presidencies and two times as the Ward Relief Society President. While Dave was serving in the U.S. Army in Georgia and Washington D.C., she served faithfully in Sunday School, Young Women, and Relief Society callings. One of her most cherished, but sometimes frustrating callings, was to get her children to church every Sunday by herself while Dave was at a Ward Council meeting or serving as the Stake Executive Secretary. She loved serving her Father in Heaven wherever she was and the people she served loved her.
Marlene was always busy doing just about anything and everything. The thing she loved most was being a full-time wife and mother. She was proud to show Dave and the kids shelf after shelf of home-grown, bottled fruits and vegetables that she helped grow in her garden. With five active kids, there was always a lot of laundry to be done. She loved fresh, crisp clothes right off the clothesline. Her friends called her the laundry queen. For many years she did a lot of needle work and created many items that are still hanging in her home. Marlene has compiled many generations of family history on both her and Dave's sides of the family. She loved serving as a temple worker for 7 years in the Ogden Temple and would have served longer had her health allowed. Something that brought her joy was to keep her home neat and well organized.
Marlene loved to travel with her sweetheart. They were blessed to travel the world, seeing many sites, and enjoying many cultures. She enjoyed the annual family camping trip and spending time with her family. She was tireless in her efforts to teach her children the gospel of Jesus Christ. She seldom if ever missed a week writing to her missionary children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader as attested by the hundreds of books in her personal library. Her favorite thing to do up until her final hour was to sit with her grandchildren, snuggled with her on the couch, reading their favorite books to them. Most of all, as a reminder to her family, she was proud of all their great accomplishments, and was always happy to have them surround her at any time, for any reason.
Marlene is survived by her husband and children, and by her sister Linda (Dutch-deceased) Fulmer, sister Alice (Scott) Waldron, brother Paul (Kathy) Holmes, brother Blaine (Nancy) Holmes, and brother Ray (Sharlan) Holmes.
Many thanks for the care and service of the wonderful people from Intermountain Health and Hospice. Her family thanks all those who have come to reminisce, visit, and share their love and concern for her.
