Lynn R. (Heard) Keezer, 77, of Topeka KS passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving Husband Jim and Daughter Desiree. She was born on December 6, 1947, in Howell Michigan. She was the oldest of 4 children born to Charles and Jacqueline (Bippley) Heard.
She married Daryl Keezer in 1966 and had one daughter Desiree, they divorced in 1972. She was married to Harold Lynd from 1995 until his death in 2008.
Lynn's journey began in Michigan but her journey of military life with Daryl brought her to Topeka KS in 1971. Topeka is where Lynn chose to put down new roots and begin another chapter of her life as a single mother raising her daughter Desiree. Topeka is where she found not only a place to call home but also a life as a dedicated professional and dear friend to those who knew her. When Lynn was at a crossroads and wasn't sure how to proceed, she would ask her father Charles for advice. Charles would tell her that the turtle never got anywhere until it stuck its neck out. Lynn would pass on that advice to her daughter.
Lynn met James Peters in May 2010 while out for an evening of dancing at Croco Square in Tecumseh KS. After many additional dates, they married in June 2011. Together they shared many trips and adventures. Sometimes they would travel hundreds of miles just for a cup of coffee, a piece of pie, a burger, or simply to see a certain landmark.
Lynn was an Administrative Assistant for the 3rd Judicial District, where she was the unofficial 'ruler of the roost,' until she happily retired in 2016. She was very proud of her service as the Administrative Assistant to the Honorable Terry L. Bullock (deceased) and the Honorable Mark S. Braun (retired). Lynn was not only respected for her work ethic but also treasured for her kindness and the supportive presence she brought to the workplace. After she officially retired, she would continue serving as a fill-in to other judges for a few more years and is remembered fondly by others at the Shawnee County Courthouse.
In the years after her retirement, she remained focused on family and her 3 great-nephews who provided her with many moments of joy and the occasional headache. Lynn was always "on call" and would help when needed with her great-nephews. She was especially a great help to her great-nephew Jaxon who was diagnosed with Autism. She would take him on adventures and get him involved in activities to help him grow and understand the world around him.
Lynn had an undeniable passion for travel and adventure. She had a unique gift for creating unforgettable experiences for those around her, always ensuring that every journey was filled with laughter and joy. Lynn's ability to find the interesting and out-of-the-way hidden gems for the many trips she planned gave her happiness. She and Jim had many adventures together and sometimes took Jaxon along for him to experience new things.
Lynn is survived by her husband of 13 and a half years, James M. Peters, of the home; daughter Desiree (Chris) of Berryton KS; brother Mark of Topeka KS; sister Karla of Michigan; grandson Jerry (Rebekah) and 3 great-granddaughters of Topeka KS; niece Erin (Dylan) and 3 great-nephews of Topeka KS. Lynn was preceded in death by her parents and sister Geraldine.
As we say goodbye to Lynn, we celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who exemplified the best of us. Her story does not end here; it lives on in the memories of those she loved and in the lives of those she touched. Lynn's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the unspoken understanding that life, no matter how fleeting, is a gift to be cherished and shared. Lynn's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the community that embraced her, the colleagues who respected her, and the friends who adored her. As the sun sets on her remarkable journey, we take comfort in knowing that Lynn's light will continue to shine brightly in the legacy she leaves and the love that will never fade.
A Celebration of Life will be held later in Spring 2025. Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Mausoleum in Topeka KS. Lynn was supportive and very proud of the Law Enforcement career path her daughter Desiree took. Desiree hoped that her mother would have still been around to witness her retirement.
