Lynne Maxey Spraggs, 87, entered the arms of Jesus on December 13, 2025 with her children by her side. She was born in
Cairo, IL on March 7, 1938, to Thomas Cleburn and Ruth Maxey. Lynne leaves her family to cherish her memories: Her daughter and caregiver, Gina Mitchell and husband Larry Hoag; Her son, Frederick Ray Spraggs II and wife, Lori; three grandchildren-Rebecca Parker-Bell (Seth), Mariah Dembroski (Conner), and Parker Lee Mitchell and one great-granddaughter, Freya Charlene Dembroski, and her sister, Jeanette Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Jean, one brother, Charles, and her loving husband, Fred on May 10, 2025.
Lynne will always be remembered for her love of family and friends, entertaining, cooking, reading, walking and playing bridge. She hosted family and friends for a visit, a vacation or to help those in need. Her famous chocolate cake and homemade biscuits and gravy were requested often. Lynne kept in touch with friends from all over the country where she and Fred lived. Some friendships started as early as elementary school. Playing bridge was her favorite hobby. Once, when she and Fred moved to a new city, she even knocked on a neighbor's door looking for a bridge player. She loved living in Florida and walked almost every day outside in the beautiful weather. She always had a smile on her face and would stop and talk with any neighbors who happened to be outside during her walks. She and Fred found a church home to attend wherever they lived. Immanuel Baptist in
Lexington, KY and Northcliffe Church in
Spring Hill, FL were home to them as they served alongside newfound friends.
Lynne was the type of mother her children would choose if they were even allowed to choose. Without hesitation, when Lynne had a stroke in 2019, her daughter moved in with them to help care for her and Fred. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchild. Seeing them prior to her death was truly a gift from God.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Northcliffe Church in the Family Life Center on Friday, January 16th, at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Jerry Waugh officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Northcliffe Church (for the Building Fund-Debt Reduction), 10515 Northcliffe Blvd.,
Spring Hill, FL 34608 to help meet the goals that her husband, Fred, was instrumental in starting. Family and friends are all invited to join Lynne's family to celebrate her wonderful life. Her love was boundless. Her heart was genuine, and she most certainly will be missed on this earth by all who knew her. But her family can take solace knowing that she is now safe in the arms of her Heavenly Father.
