Lynnette Wilde Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home on Jan. 11, 2026.
Lynnette Edwards Wilde, beloved wife of the late Paul A. Wilde, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, January 2, 2026.
At age 101, Lynnette Wilde remained her family's North Star providing love, direction and inspiration.
Quick- witted and sharp as a tack, Lynnette could recall any moment from her long life with astonishing clarity. A great listener, you could ask her about a key life event, a piece of history or a long-departed friend, and she would recreate the story in vivid, precise detail. She especially loved to tell the story of the day the Chicago Tribune mistakenly printed the headline "Dewey Defeats Truman" which also happened to be the day she moved into the Glenview home where she lived until her final day. She was living history, wrapped in bright blue eyes and a warm, gentle smile.
Raised in Berwyn, Illinois, and an alumna of Morton High School, Class of 1942, Lynnette graduated early to begin a career on LaSalle Street; this is where she met the love of her life, Paul A. Wilde. Lynn used her business skills and sharp intellect to establish herself in the financial field, including having served as Board Member of the Glenview Guaranty Savings & Loan. She earned a reputation for sharp intellect, sound judgement, and financial savvy.
Bowling almost perfect games, snowmobiling the northern Door trails, devouring books along with her devotion to the world of theater, Lynnette was a gracious and joyful host. She loved bringing people together, be it in her Glenview home or her "little cabin in the woods" in Door County, Wisconsin. Elegant, generous, and always impeccably dressed.
Lynnette was known for hosting infamous all-night Bridge parties with lively gatherings of friends that adventurously also traveled the world together - always with a deck-of-cards on hand. As the years passed, it was not unusual for somebody to drop by at happy hour where you could find Lynn relaxing in the screen house on Garrett Bay with a tray of cheese and crackers prepared for guests, gently reminiscing while taking in the sunset and enjoying a bourbon-on-the-rocks with a splash and a twist. It is where many of us picture her now.
Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Wilde, twin sisters Jean and Joan, and brother Earl. Lynn was the devoted mother of Paul (Kathy), Leslie, and Steve (Susan). She was the beloved grandmother of Sarah, Blaze, Loren, Willa, and Sam, and great grandmother or "GG", to Oliver, Aimee, and Iris.
Above all, she deeply loved her family and friends with her generous heart and never lost track of all events that were happening in her loved one's lives. Her home became the home of all she loved - guests always welcome. She was someone you could count on whether you needed well-informed advice, steady reassurance, or a perfectly timed clever remark for perspective, Lynn was always there. Her mainspring of unconditional love is going to be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Special thanks to devoted helpers, Ellen Cashin and Mary Ciask, whose love and kindness Lynn cherished.
