M. Elton Baccus

Murray Elton "Little Elton" Baccus, 62, of Hertford, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 in Greenville. Mr. Baccus was born in Chowan County on February 24th, 1963, and was the son of Dorcas Rae Sumner Adams & her husband, Harvey and the late Murray Elton Baccus and his wife, Marilyn. He was the owner of Baccus Roofing, which he had successfully operated for 25 years. Elton loved NASCAR and enjoyed working outside in his yard.

Surviving is his wife of 32 years, Donna Gail Baccus; a son, Nicholas Baccus and his wife, Diana of Arab, AL; two sisters, Tammy Ponton and her husband, William of New Bern and Lesley Jones and her husband, Chris of Birmingham, AL; two brothers, Jarod Baccus and his wife, Jen of Raleigh and Eric Adams and his wife, Tracey of Birmingham, AL; two grandchildren, Marie and Jaxon; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 12th from 6 to 8 pm at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and at all other times at his residence, 116 Howells Lane, Hertford. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13th at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
