M. Lee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Riley - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Mar. 31, 2025.

M. Jean Lee, 97, a cherished soul who graced the world with her quiet strength, was born on August 24, 1927, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Earl & Hattie Hemry. She lived a life filled with grace and dedication, which she demonstrated through her unwavering commitment to her work and family.

Jean's professional career began after her graduation from Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, leading her to a distinguished career in the payroll department at Eli-Lilly, where she dedicated over 35 years of her life before retiring in 1985. Her colleagues admired not only her work ethic but also her thoughtful contributions, making her a respected figure in the company.

As years rolled by, Jean found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her favorite morning ritual consisted of savoring oatmeal, a daily breakfast she fondly referred to as the breakfast of "Champions." Those who were close to her understood that this small routine brought her comfort and happiness. Although Jean was a private individual, with a quiet demeanor, she had the courage to express her thoughts when it mattered most, often providing a fresh perspective that left a lasting impact.

Throughout her lifetime, Jean developed a variety of interests that enriched her days. She cherished the moments spent boating in Madison, Indiana, enjoyed the satisfaction of solving word-search puzzles, and never missed an episode of "Wheel of Fortune." In her younger days, she had a lively passion for bowling, and those memories brought a twinkle to her eye. Yet, in her later years, Jean found contentment within the cozy confines of her home, where she preferred to spend time reflecting on a life well-lived.

Sadly, Jean passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, in the home she loved so dearly. Her life touched many, and her memories will be forever held close by those who knew her.

Jean survived by her loving niece & caregiver; Jodi Lang, nephew; William Carver III, and niece; Jeri Ungersma.

Jean is preceded in death by her loving husband; Gerald Lee, brother; Earl Sullivan, and sister; Betty Carver.

The visitation will take place on April 4, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, both at O’Riley - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, located at 6107 S East St, Indianapolis, IN, 46227. Jean will then be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, with the burial service commencing at 2:15 PM at 435 W Troy Ave, Indianapolis, IN, 46225.

As Jean's family and friends gather to celebrate her remarkable journey, they will recall not just the quiet moments, but the profound resonance of a life beautifully lived. Her legacy of love, respect, and those warm bowls of oatmeal will continue to warm the hearts of those she leaves behind.
