Rolley Ferguson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Riley - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Feb. 2, 2026.
Rolley "Perry" Ferguson, a cherished figure in the Indianapolis community and beloved family man, passed away on February 1, 2026, just days before his 75th birthday. Born on February 11, 1951, in Indianapolis, to the late Otis & Lilly Furguson, Rolley's zest for life was evident from a young age. His charisma and warmth endeared him to everyone he met, making him a familiar face at local events and gatherings.

Rolley's journey into the world of law enforcement began at Uncle Raymond's filling station, where he was encouraged by the police officers who visited to join their ranks. This early inspiration blossomed into a profound commitment; he became a Cadet, laying the foundation for a remarkable career that would span more than thirty years. He joined the Indianapolis Police Department in 1973 and quickly distinguished himself, transitioning to a motorcycle officer in 1975. His dedication and passion for his work led him to be a part of the prestigious Indianapolis Motorcycle Drill Team and later, the Marion County Sheriff's Office, where he spent ten fulfilling years.

A proud graduate of Manual High School in Indianapolis in 1969, Rolley also pursued higher education at Purdue University. His thirst for knowledge and heartfelt connections with others became hallmarks of his character. Known not only for his effectiveness as an officer but also for his engaging storytelling ability, Rolley could captivate an audience, sharing tales that often left listeners in stitches. He never met a stranger; each encounter was an opportunity for friendship and laughter. His experiences included meaningful interactions with influential figures during several Presidential Parades, moments he cherished deeply. Rolley married the love of his life, Karen Sue, on November 11, 1975. They were married until her passing in 2010.

Beyond his impressive career, Rolley found joy in various interests. He was a fierce competitor in the Police and Fire Games, showing resilience and determination more than a few times throughout his life. As someone who loved throwing strikes at the bowling alley, many Friday nights were spent enjoying the sport with friends. His greatest joy, however, came from his grandchildren-whether attending school events or celebrating "Grandparents Day," his love for them was palpable and unwavering.

Rolley's adventurous spirit was reflected in his fondness for travel, with visits to sunny Florida holding a special place in his heart. A unique hobby of his was penny collecting, which he turned into a labor of love; he achieved his goal of amassing a million pennies, a testament to his patience and commitment.

Rolley is survived by his loving sons; Rolley Jr. (Samantha McClain) Ferguson, William (Megan) Sage, and Robert (Kara) Ferguson, grandchildren; Jessica Wilkins, Dylan (Heidi) Ferguson, Zoe Ferguson, Molly Ferguson, Reagan Sherfick, Elly Ferguson, Aiden Sage, and Robert Sage, great-grandchildren; Emily Wilkins, and Ryliee Ferguson, brother; Dennis Ferguson, and his 9 grand pups.

Rolley is preceded in death by his loving wife; Karen Sue Ferguson.

Visitation will be held at O'Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 3:00pm-7:00pm with Funeral Services beginning at 7:00pm in the funeral home. A private family burial will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

As we remember Rolley, we celebrate a life rich in service, kindness, and love. Although he has left this world, his legacy will continue to shine in the stories shared, the lives he touched, and the community he devoted himself to. Rolley Ferguson will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, and he will forever be remembered as a man who lived fully and gave generously.
