Mabel Luke Eng
Date Of Birth: 11/13/1927
Date of Death: 01/24/2025
Mabel Luke Eng of Aloha, Oregon, born November 13, 1927, died peacefully at the age of 97 on January 24, 2025 and not in a raging ball of fire as we, who experienced her driving firsthand, all expected. Mabel was born in Seattle Washington where she graduated from Chief Sealth International High School. Growing up as the youngest of three children, she was, as told by her sister Anne, a bit of a prankster. She first met her husband Lincoln Paul Eng, a man with a great sense of humor, in a morgue in a tuberculosis sanitarium, so perhaps their marriage was meant to be. They married August 27, 1949 at St. Clement's Episcopal Church in Seattle after which they had five children and in 1971 moved to Oregon where Mabel was active at the churches where Lincoln presided. Mabel was a long time employee at the Beaverton School District working at many different schools including Aloha High School, and McKinley and Chehalem Elementary Schools. She had many hobbies and enjoyed learning new things, became proficient in crochet, took classes in welding, clay sculpture, and auto body repair and eventually, following her passion of gardening, became a Master Gardener. As she became older, she was also very active in the senior community and enjoyed trips to the Elsie Stuhr Center. Despite having dementia, Mabel still enjoyed being in her garden and even as she slept more often and walked less, would insist on working in her garden, lying down to pull weeds, sometimes rolling to another area to work, and sometimes napping where she lay. This did, at first, cause some concern among her neighbors, but soon they realized this was what she enjoyed. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Lincoln and her eldest daughter Margaret, her sister Anne (Ko) and her brother Russell (Luke), and is survived by her children Cecilia (Andrew Nisbet), Stephanie, Aimee, and Dorothy (Eric Higashi), and four grandchildren, David and Samual Warren, and Avery and Benjamin Higashi.
