Mabel I. Huber

Mabel I. Huber, 98, Hastings, went to be with the Lord at home in her sleep on December 18, 2021, one month prior to her 99th birthday. Born January 18,1923 in St. Boniface, daughter of Peter and Cecelia (Thomas) Yeager. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Bernard who passed on November 24,1981; grandson, Michael Magoulick; along with her brothers and sisters: Mae, Agnes, Margaretta, Blanche, Harry, Evelyn, Robert, Urban, Patrick, Terrance, Merle, Nora, William, Madeline, Edward, Roy, Naomi, Ruth, and Eugene.

Survived by children, Donna (Edward) Magoulick, Patton; Karen (Lawrence) Becker Hackettstown, NJ: and Patricia (William) Bernard, Hastings; granddaughters, Christina, Carrie, Gwenis, Jenna and Shaina; great­grandchildren, Jordyn, Paige, Elyse, Caleb, Sawyer, Airiana and Uriah; numerous nieces and nephews; and good friend, Dolores "Toots" Westrick.

Previously employed at Commons store and as a seamstress at Carol Ann Apparel Hastings. She was a compassionate caregiver, gardener, canner, butcher, and baker. She was an avid card player and for many years played weekly with Peg, Kate, Ede, Agatha, and Ruth. At card tournaments her team was the one to beat. She enjoyed getting together with Helen, Marci, Dolores, and her daughters, visiting Toots, and spending time with her family especially the kids. She was a Member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and Hastings Senior Citizens.

Being the youngest and living on a farm she was tasked with many chores and in those days, as she said, catering to the boys. She always repeated what her dad said, "Hard work never hurt anybody", this was very evident in her life, but she never complained, and nor did she speak an unkind word of anyone.

Friends and family will be received Monday, December 27, from 10-11 a.m. at St. Boniface Church, 1278 Main Street, Hastings, with a mass to follow.
