Mabel I Mailand, 90, passed from this life into eternal life on January 10, 2025. She was born in Chautauqua, New York. After graduation from Chautauqua High School, Mabel was a music education student at the State University of New York at Fredonia where she met her future husband, Charlie. Her major instrument was the French horn with additional studies on piano and organ. After receiving a BS in Music Education, she taught music in the Jamestown-Falconer area of New York. Charlie and Mabel were married in Dec. of 1956 and in June of 1957 they moved to Long Island where Charlie taught instrumental music. The next 10 years, Mabel was busy being a home-maker and taking care of their four children. During this time, she also played organ at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sayville, NY. After 1965 Mabel started substitute teaching and then taught Kindergarten full time in the Patchogue/Medford School District. In 1980, Charlie and Mabel moved to Oklahoma and Mabel earned a Master of Arts in Teaching at Oklahoma City University.
Mabel taught kindergarten for many years at Christian Heritage Academy in OKC and later at the new campus in Del City. In 1993 she became the kindergarten teacher at Christ Lutheran School where she taught for nine years. She then taught music at Mustang Christian Academy and Mustang Church of the Nazarene. Mabel was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church of Mustang, Oklahoma where she served as a kindergarten teacher, Sunday School teacher, organist, and pianist. She loved accompanying the children as they sang, and was doing this until just weeks before she went home to be with the Lord.
She is survived by four children: Lorna Proctor (son-in-law David) of Plano, Texas; Karl Mailand (daughter-in-law Beth) of Fredericksburg, VA; Deborah Hadlock (son-in-law Randy) of Tuttle, OK; Glenn Mailand (daughter-in-law Glynis) of Mustang, OK. She is also survived by brother Daniel, sister Martha, numerous nieces, nephews, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Charlie, sisters Lennie and Nancy, and daughters-in-law Carrie and Anne. Mabel's unwavering commitment to children and education had an impact on all that knew her. As her health declined in later years, she continued to fight through the pain, exemplifying the "athlete" mentioned by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 9: 24-25.
In lieu of flowers, Mabel's wish was for support to be directed to World Missionary Evangelism.
