Mabel Ducote Vidrine, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the age of 99 in Destrehan, Louisiana. Born on November 19, 1926, in
Hessmer, LA, Mabel's life was a testament to the power of devotion and the joy of family.
Mabel was the cherished wife of the late Rabel Vidrine, with whom she shared 72 years of unwavering partnership. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter. She was a loving mother to her daughters, Pamela "Pam" Galliano (Wayne), Brenda Villio (Robert), and the late Diane Uhle. Known as MawMaw to her adored grandchildren: Chad Galliano, Jessica Summers, Melissa Mattingly, Alicia McCarthy, Lauren Cooper, Christina Uhle, Monique Sonnier, and Jeremy Galliano, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren, Grayson & Leighton Cooper, Maxwell & Miles Mattingly, Hayley & Jackson Summers, and Collins & Anders McCarthy.
The daughter of the late Eustis Ducote and the late Elizone Ducote, Mabel was one of five siblings. She is survived by her sister Cecilia "Cely" DeBetaz (Jules) and was predeceased by her siblings: Jessie Ducote (Hilda), E.D. Ducote (JoAnn), and her twin Sybil Scallan (Charlie). Mabel's family ties were a source of immense pride and joy throughout her life.
Mabel's home was a reflection of her loving spirit, always immaculate and welcoming. Her passion for gardening brought beauty to her surroundings, and her sewing skills created countless cherished garments for her girls. A gifted cook and baker, Mabel's kitchen was the heart of her home, where she lovingly prepared meals for her family. Children, especially babies, held a special place in Mabel's heart. Their innocence and laughter were a constant source of happiness for her.
A devout Catholic, Mabel's faith was unwavering. She attended church an hour early, not only to prepare her own heart for worship but also to pray for the many people she held dear.
Mabel's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ormond Nursing & Care Center and St. Catherine Hospice for their compassionate care and support during her final days.
