Mable Auten Buchanan, 86, of Lowell, passed away on January 29, 2023 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was born on March 22, 1936 to the late Harry Auten and Gussie Martin Auten. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Jim Auten, Charles Auten, Winfred “Cotton” Auten, and Harold Auten. Mable was a longtime member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Lowell for over 55 years where she taught the Ladies #2 Sunday School Class for over 40 years. She was known at church for cooking her specialty, potato soup and cornbread. Mable loved everyone and loved helping anyone she could, especially the church shut ins. She enjoyed trips to Gatlinburg taking in the sights of the leaves and trees along the way. She also enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Louis “Bud” Buchanan; son, Mark Buchanan and wife Karen; sister, Virginia Newton; grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Courtney and Blake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 1101 N. Main St., Lowell, NC 28098 with Rev. Mitch Evans and Rev. Walt Griggs officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow immediately at Edgewood Cemetery, Lowell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 1101 N. Main St., Lowell, NC 28098 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.

Mabel was a dear friend. She taught Sunday School. She was a awesome teacher. Mabel lived a Christian life. She loved her savior Jesus christ. I know one day we will meet again my friend. Bud and Mark and other family I am thinking of you. I am so sorry for your loss. Yall are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you.
