Mable Florence Aquilla Calhoun was born on July 11, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio, the 12th and youngest child of William and Louise Horsley. She passed away on February 22, 2025, after a 2 ½ year battle against gallbladder cancer.

Mable graduated in January 1954, from East High School in Columbus, Ohio. She married Samuel Calhoun Jr. on September 5, 1955, and remained loyal to him until his death on June 7, 1987. Mable was preceded in death by her Parents William & Louise Horsley, Husband Samuel Calhoun Jr., Step-mother Audrey Horsley, Son-in-law Anthony Edgerton, Daughter-in-law Diana Calhoun, Eleven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her Children Samuel Nathan Calhoun (Andrea), Pamela Christine Boateng (Gyasi), Phillip Anthony Calhoun (Amy), Grandchildren Ciera Calhoun-Robinson (Al’moneau), Jor-El Edgerton (Christina), Phillip Calhoun Jr., Blended Family Grandchildren, Collin Pitts, Chandler Pitts, Jaylyn Bucio, Julian Bucio, Great Grandchildren Kajafa Battiste Jr., Zeriah Battiste, Nasir Spencer, Symone Sims, Jayden Sims-Edgerton, Jade Edgerton, Jaycee Edgerton, Five generations of nieces and nephews.

Mable held several secular occupations during her lifetime, including restaurant attendant, office clerk for the State of Ohio, childcare provider for Franklin County (Ohio) Child Services, and transportation assistant for disabled students in Franklin County (Ohio).

However, her most important work and contribution was as a minister of the good news from the Holy Bible which started when she learned the truth of God’s Word in 1971 and was later baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on April 29, 1972.

Mable loved our God, Jehovah with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength (Luke 10:27). She was well known for her steadfast determination, unwavering faith, and uncompromising loyalty. Her rock-solid dedication to Jehovah moved her to tirelessly and completely pour herself into the life-saving work of helping others to learn about and dedicate their lives to Him. Her loyal and heartfelt efforts resulted in the precious fruitage of multiple disciples of Jesus Christ; most importantly, her three children.

Mable’s love for Jehovah and his son, Jesus, was also clear and evident by her love for people. Just like the Christian disciple Dorcas (Tabitha) mentioned in the Bible (Acts 9:36), Mable endeared herself to countless scores of people during her lifetime because of her unselfish and sincere love and concern for others. She will always be remembered as someone who touched the lives of everyone she encountered in a very special and memorable way.

Mable’s faith in the Bible’s promises remained steadfast and unbreakably strong down to her very last breath.

Even though we will deeply miss her every day she is apart from us, we are confident and truly comforted to know that she now resides in the safest place possible – asleep and in the memory of our Heavenly Father, Jehovah, waiting to be called back to life by the life-restoring resurrection in the new world to come (John 5:28, 29).

Visitation will be Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 3:00pm to 3:45pm with a memorial service to follow at 4:00pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 570 Robinwood Ave. Columbus, OH 43213.
