Obituary published on Legacy.com by Britton Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2026.
Mable Ruth "Skip" Spell of Oneida, KY, passed away peacefully at AdventHealth Manchester Hospital on January 24, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on October 1, 1938, in Alma, GA, Skip touched countless lives through her unwavering compassion, service, and dedication.

Skip was a devoted member of the Big Creek Baptist Church, where her faith guided her every step. Her commitment to serving others was reflected in her career as a Nurse Practitioner and midwife, roles in which she provided care and comfort to many in her community.

She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Delana Brocket and husband Brad and Haley, Michael Collins and wife Deloris, Julie Saylor, Donald Smith, Teresa Smith, Jason Spell, and Kristen Fasso and husband Ryan. Skip's only surviving sibling is Author Dana Spell and wife Cindy of Bushnell, FL. A special friend for years, Deborah Woods, held a cherished place in Skip's heart. She also considered her church family, her work family, her friends, and her patients as her extended family.

Skip was preceded in death by her parents, James F. Spell and Ann Smith Spell; her sister, Frances Spell Stewart; brother, Donnie Smith; and her nephew, Darren Collins.

Visitation will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, February 2nd, at Britton Funeral Home and service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 2nd, at Britton Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by Scotty Sumner, Jason Holland, and Anthony Adams. Skip will be laid to rest at Joe Woods Cemetery in Hyden, KY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Big Creek Baptist Youth Fund or to the Hills to Hollers Outreach Center, honoring Skip's lifelong commitment to service and community.

Skip's legacy lives on in the lives she touched through her faith, her healing hands, and her boundless kindness. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
