William Micah "Mike" Rock

On Sunday, February 15, 2026, William Micah Rock, age 72, of Big Creek, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the family and friends he loved so dearly.

A native of Wilson, North Carolina, "Mike" was born on March 6, 1953, to the late Colie Edwin Rock, Jr. and Alice Adele Rock. He carried his love for the outdoors to Virginia Tech, where he earned degree in Forestry and Wildlife. In 1979, Mike's journey led him from Wise, Virginia, to Big Creek, Kentucky, to begin a career at the Red Bird Ranger Station. It was there that he met Roberta Estep, the woman who would become the love of his life.

Mike dedicated 41 honorable years to the United States Forest Service. His career was defined by bravery and service; he spent countless hours on fire detail across the country and was recognized for his critical recovery efforts following the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster and the 9/11 World Trade Center tragedy.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mike was a pillar of faith. A devoted member of Big Creek Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, choir leader, Sunday School teacher, and pianist. He lived by a simple rule: always put God first.

In February 1983, Mike and Roberta married, beginning a 43-year legacy of love. Together they raised two daughters. Mike was the quintessential "girl dad," excelling in every aspect of the role with patience and pride. He was also a master gardener, a notorious prankster, and a lifelong thrill-seeker. Whether he was meticulously tending to his spring flowers, jumping waves at the beach, or riding every rollercoaster in the park, Mike embraced life with infectious energy.

Mike was preceded in death by his infant son, Robert Micah Rock; his parents, Colie and Alice; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Left to carry on his legacy of faith are his devoted wife, Roberta Rock; his daughters, Rebecca Rock of Big Creek and Alicia Feltner (BJ) of Somerset; his brothers, Edwin Rock (Carolyn), David Rock (Vicki), and Kevin Rock (Cathy); and his beloved grandchildren, Cooper, Lilly, Christian, Max, and Ivy. He also leaves behind special nieces whom he loved like daughters, Melanie Estep and Harleigh Grubb, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 19th at Britton Funeral Home. Visitation will take place at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, February 18th, also at Britton Funeral Home.
