Mack Mitchell Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 29, 2024.
FORT WORTH - Mack Mitchell Jr., 79, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
Visitation: 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2024 at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suite A; 3344 White Settlement Rd, Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Service: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in Live Oak Chapel at Greenwood; 3100 White Settlement Rd, Fort Worth, Texas 76107; followed by entombment at Greenwood Mausoleum.
Mack was born to parents, Mack and Francis Mitchell on a cotton farm in Wolfe City, Texas on November 19, 1944. He was the oldest of seven children, and the only boy. Not long after his father moved them to Fort Worth, Texas, he became an all-star running back for Polytechnic High School. Mack was then drafted into the United States Army in 1965. He was stationed at Fort Bliss and met the love of his life on a blind date. They married on December 31, 1968 in El Paso, Texas. He spent 25 years in the Army, and retired as a Command Sergeant Major (E9) at Fort Bliss TX in 1990.
Mack and Rosa had 3 children while in the military and settled in Fort Worth, TX in 1991 after retiring from the Army. He used to tell us "the Army was the best decision he never made"
Mack enjoyed studying his Bible, spending time with family, singing and dancing with mom, fishing, road trips, mom's Mexican food, and watching his Texas Rangers.
Mack is survived by his children, Adriana, Byron, and Mark; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Mack Mitchell Jr was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, soldier, patriot, and an ordain minister.
He would always say "life flashes by and gone before you know it, so don't forget to slow down and enjoy it"
Mack will truly be missed, but his life will never be forgotten.

Mack Mitchell was one of the finest men I ever knew. He was my Drill Sgt in Fort Bliss from May until July 1968. RIP Sarge will miss you.

Corporal Mitchell, a man, officer, and military veteran, played a significant role in shaping my law enforcement career with his knowledge and leadership. His fair and firm approach impacted many of us at TCSO, and his absence was keenly felt when he left. I am grateful for the experiences, both positive and challenging, that we shared. May God bless you and your family. Now reunited with your wife in God's embrace. Until we meet again, farewell to a true Hero. Thank you ! Doss
